The homeowner reported a leak inside the wall behind the main floor tub and shower. It was most noticeable when the shower head was engaged, with much less leaking when using the tub spout only. The tub and shower were tiled, with no access from behind, and the homeowner was open to removing tile if needed.

What We Did

Arrived onsite and ran the shower for approximately 20 minutes to allow the leak to present itself
Noted the tub had an imperfection around the drain opening and evidence of past sealing attempts
Removed the tub drain, applied fresh silicone sealant, and reinstalled the drain assembly
Found the existing tub spout was leaking heavily onto the overflow area of the waste and overflow assembly
Installed a new tub spout to eliminate that leak point
Inspected the shower valve and shower head connection points, with no obvious leaks observed at the time of testing
Advised the homeowner to allow the silicone to cure fully, then re-check the next morning to confirm whether the leak has stopped

The Result

The tub drain seal was refreshed and reinstalled with silicone to address a potential leak at the drain opening
A leaking tub spout was replaced, removing a clear source of water reaching the overflow area
Because sealant cure time is required, the homeowner will re-test after drying to confirm the final outcome
